Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation and augmentation mammoplasty are plastic surgery terms for the breast-implant and the fat-graft mammoplasty approaches used to increase the size, change the shape, and alter the texture of the breasts of a woman. As an elective, cosmetic surgery, breast augmentation, involves using breast implants or fat to increase the size of your breasts, restore breast volume, achieve a more rounded shape, or improve natural breast size asymmetry. The surgical implantation uses a breast implant, either an implant filled with saline-solution, or an implant filled with silicone-gel. The surgical augmentation approach can also include the application of transplanted autologous skin flaps harvested from the woman’s body.
Rockland’s Premier Medical Spa offers three breast augmentation procedures, performed by Sal A. Farruggio, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Mastopexy:
Mastopexy (breast – lift) involves reshaping the skin and usually the inner breast tissue as well to create a breast that is not as saggy as it once was by changing and modifying the size, contour, and elevation of the breasts. The goal of surgery is to improve the shape of the breast while minimizing visible scars. The usual mastopexy patient is the woman who desires the restoration of her bust (size, contour, elevation), because of the post-partum volume losses of fat and milk-gland tissues.
Breast Reduction:
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The goal of breast reduction surgery is to reduce the size of your breasts and reshape them so that they are proportionate to the rest of your body and are no longer a source of physical discomfort. Your breasts will be in better proportion with your body and will feel firmer. Surgery will alleviate neck, back, and shoulder pain and make it easier to breathe and exercise.
Gynoecomastia:
Gynecomastia is swelling of the breast tissue in boys or men, caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Gynecomastia surgery reduces breast size, flattening and enhancing the chest contours.
